“I first realized my design potential when I was making costumes for a production at NOCA (New Orleans Contemporary Arts Center) I was able to fabricate coordinating costumes without taking measurements. I also worked at a boutique, so I was constantly exposure to styling, marketing and wholesale purchasing. I wanted to learn more so I was so excited when I joined The Fashion Lab.”

“It has always been my dream to be an entertainer, and The Fashion Lab made me want to learn the business side of the entertainment industry. I really enjoyed the speakers who taught us about networking and emphasized how important it is to market ourselves. Now I’m a freshman at Dillard University and I’m studying mass communications for recording arts. The Fashion Lab really prepared me for what to expect in the future.”

“Before joining The Fashion Lab, I was in the process of designing urban wear. I worked with a partner and used my graphic design skills to enhance my designs. Now that I’ve learned a lot of business skills, I take it much more seriously. With the right planning, my summer side projects could turn into a real career. Eventually I would like to open my own store. The Fashion Lab pushed me to do a lot more than I expected.”
ARIELLE
“My most memorable moment at The Fashion Lab was the fashion show. I really enjoyed learning about modeling and production. I learned how to prioritize because the show was so fast paced and intense. Now I’m majoring in film at the University of New Orleans. Everything I’m learning is correlated to things I learned at The Fashion Lab. To be in film, you need to know about the production aspect and how to put on together a show.”
